Whoever said “April showers brings May flowers” obviously never had a bad hair day.
Because for me, RAIN=SHIT HAIR and I’m not so concerned with the flowers, ya know?
My hair especially, is the prone-to-bad-hair-days type. Think curly, thick enough for 50 people, course and frizzy. Yep, that’s me. And I’ve tried EVERY rainy day hair tip out there and none of them work because, seriously, I feel like my hair is a breed of its own. I don’t have the sleek, easily tamable shiny locks most people have, so I’ve had to come up with my own tips.
Over the years I’ve learned through trial and error how to tame my mane on the rainy days and now I’m spilling my secrets with YOU!
Don’t even try to leave it naturally curly. If I’m sure about ANYTHING on a rainy day, it’s that if I let my hair air dry the night before, it’s going up. I can add the most insane amount of product to my hair and it will still be frizzy. As soon as I step outside, it starts to grow…bigger and bigger and bigger. I’m not even exaggerating here at all (this picture is the proof, and this is on a good day!) So, lesson 1 for us curly thick haired girls is if it’s air dried, its going up!
Braids and messy buns are your best friend. If you don’t know how to braid, LEARN! It will seriously save you on rainy days when you’re not feeling the messy bun option. With braids I feel a little more put together than I would with a bun. PLUS it will make your natural curls last until it’s safe to let those babies out of the cage because the braid makes them more structured! So this is a win, win for me!
Avoid the flat iron. Super thick hair is hard to get sleek and straight in general, so add humidity and you have a lion’s mane! But really, I used to try to flat iron my hair and it would be normal for about 2 seconds before it began to grow and before I knew it, I looked like a full on lion. SO, if I blow dried my hair straight (with a round brush and about 3 years later) I always curl it with a curling wand to smooth the cuticle down and it actually stays half way decent ends up looking like this >>>
If you all have any tricks to tame some crazy frizzy hair on rainy days, PLEASE share!!! I’d love to hear!
